About the
John T. Edwards Foundation

John T . Edwards, PhD, was an approved supervisor with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) who conducted and supervised family therapy for over 30 years. John served as director of counseling in a family health center, clinical director of an inpatient family care program, private practitioner in marriage and family therapy, and co-founder of a learning center for family therapy. John conducted over a thousand workshop and training events in family therapy, treating families in the USA and Canada. He is the author of Treating Chemically Dependent Families: A Practical Systems Approach for Professionals (Hazelden, 1990), and Working With Families, 3rd Edition (Wiley, 2026).

The John T. Edwards Foundation was established as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2011, after friends and colleagues gathered in solemn reflection at his hilltop retreat, Foundation Place, following John's passing.  There the mission was conceived that guides our efforts to this day: to extend his visionary insights in family systems to new generations of professionals, through books and journals, audio and video recordings, and the fond memories of those he taught.
