In 2023, the John T. Edwards Foundation board began discussion with Wiley Publishing, about editing and revising a 3rd Edition of John's masterpiece, Working With Families, Guidelines and Techniques.  The intention of this undertaking was to preserve the wealth of tried and true family interventions that John had perfected and taught over his prolific career, update the language and presentation for modern professionals and agencies, with the addition of new content by those who had directly learned from him.  Still more challenging was the objective of connecting new generations of human service professionals and students to the uniquely engaging style in which John Edwards distilled the complexities of family systems down to their most accessible form.  This goal has been achieved in the 3rd Edition, through the commitment of the JTE Foundation to preserving the extensive video archive of his work, as well as their investment in recording contemporary interviews of John's friends and colleagues, describing his approach; a total of 155 clips are included in the 3rd Edition video catalogue, accessible through both the print and virtual versions.

The JTE Foundation will post information, here and on social media, on purchasing Working With Families 3rd Edition as soon as it is in print, sometime in early 2026.  We will also present live and virtual trainings in family systems theory based on Working With Families: Guidelines and Techniques, 3rd Edition written by John Edwards, edited, with new content, by Tab Ballis, Michael Budlong and Michael McGuire. Participants will apply a family systems approach to current challenges, with topics including but not limited to addressing the systems response to the opioid epidemic; working within educational and criminal justice systems; special populations (military, cultural diversity, LGBTQ, etc.).  Trainings will be facilitated by colleagues of Dr. Edwards who worked with him for many years and are current or past Board members of the John T. Edwards Foundation.
